Still
Hi everybody, and happy spring. Much has changed around here at 400 Words in recent months. In true winter fashion, we’ve been giving off the impression of lying dormant. But a lot’s been going on under the unruffled surface.
First, I’ve moved from the Bay Area to New York City. And I’ve started a new full-time job. Both of these developments have been about as time- and energy-consuming as you’d imagine, which is why there hasn’t been more visible activity on the 400 Words front.
But appearances can be deceiving. Stuff is going on beneath the surface. 400 Words is going to burst into life again. As I mentioned, the Compulsions issue is closed. I’ll be notifying the authors soon, and printing as soon as the 400 Words coffers get a little fuller. (I have a quote from the printer who did such a great job with Issue 1. It’s not so far out of reach, but I have to wait until a few more copies of Issue 1 fly off the shelves.)
Big thanks to Chris Dodge and Utne for including 400 Words in the ‘Street Librarian’ column. If you’re here because you read about us in Utne, welcome! Have a look around. Please excuse the mess—like I said, the mundaner aspects of life have been demanding a lot of my time. But a better-looking website is in the works, and in the meantime, the ‘shop’ link at the top of the page is fully functional. Use it to buy a hard copy of Issue 1 of 400 Words, a beautiful book & a bargain at just $6 postpaid. If PayPal sketches you out, hit me with an email, and I’ll let you know where you can send a check.
